Jérôme Cornil

I was born in Charleroi, Belgium, in 1970. I received my Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Mons-Hainaut in 1996 and then went for a postdoctoral stay at UCSB (With Alan Heeger) and MIT (with Bob Silbey). I am a Research Associate of the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research (FNRS) in Mons and holds a Principal Visiting Research Scientist position at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

My research activities are focused on the characterization by means of quantum-chemical approaches of the electronic and optical properties of isolated and interacting conjugated chains. This work deals in particular with:

- The characterization of the lowest excited states in conjugated systems

- The impact of intermolecular interactions on the optical properties of conjugated materials in relation to their use in light-emitting displays

- Charge transport in molecular junctions in relation to the field of molecular electronics

- Charge transport properties in organic layers, molecular crystals (within the région Wallonne project ETIQUEL)

- The electronic and optical properties of self-assembled organic conjugated materials  (within the FP6 Integrated project NAIMO)

- Photoinduced charge transfer processes between donor and acceptor conjugated units, with implications on their use in organic solar cells

- Energy transfer processes between conjugated chains (within the RTN project NANOMATCH)
